Reporting
Firefighters from
Las Vegas are in
California today.
It's a team of ten
U.S. Forest Service
Firefighters and two
trucks. Other local
firefighters are
standing by. At the
Palms Hotel &
Casino, some of
those firefighters
are helping collect
a truck-load of
bottled water that
will be shipped to
the front lines.

With nearly a
half-million acres
on fire throughout
California --
outgoing governor
Gray Davis has
called on Nevada to
send in
reinforcements. And
among those
answering that call
are members of the
U.S. Forest Service
based at Mount
Charleston. "If they
needed me or needed
anybody from this
department or this
valley we would go
in a heartbeat just
to support our
brothers and sister
we would be there."
Keeping the
firefighters in good
health is a
monumental
undertaking. And
that's where Las
Vegas is again
lending a helping
hand with a
semi-truck being
filled with donated
water. "Water is
something they need
immediately."
As soon as it's
filled, this truck
will be headed to
emergency
headquarters in San
Bernadino County.
If you're
concerned about
family members in
southern California,
or are planning to
head that way
yourself -- here's a
look at where the
wildfires are
burning.
California
highway patrol tells
us Interstate-15 is
open in both
directions -- but
you may run into
some closures along
state roads and
highways the closer
you get to San Diego
or LA. Listen to
your car radio along
the way on FM 98/99
for the latest in
highway closures or
delays.
