WHY SHOULD
WE SUPPORT
BOTTLED
WATER FOR DISASTER
RELIEF? |
|
 |
|
Disasters can befall any society
and can effect any community. Disasters include both natural and human
induced crises such as floods, droughts, earthquakes and war. Often
natural disasters are exacerbated by human activities such as increased
risks and consequences of floods due to poor land-use practices which are
themselves the results of poverty, the pressure of increased population,
misguided public policy and a host of other causes. |

FEMAP For a
Healthy
Youth
Since the
early
1980's, the
community
development
programs of
FEMAP have
targeted the
adolescent
population,
particularly
in the areas
of
reproductive
health,
prevention
of HIV and
other
sexually
transmitted
diseases,
and
prevention
of drug and
alcohol
abuse. The
first youth
program to
develop
formally was
called "Programa
para el
Desarrollo
Integral de
la Juventud"
(PROJUVE-FEMAP),
and was
implemented
among 15
affiliated
members of
FEMAP
throughout
Mexico. Out
of budgetary
concerns, in
1993 this
program was
integrated
into the
reproductive
health
programs of
FEMAP, until
1999, with
the
beginning of
FEMAP por
una Juventud
Sana, or
FEMAP for a
Healthy
Youth. With
the
financial
support of
the Paso Del
Norte Health
Foundation,
this program
was
implemented
in Ciudad
Juarez. This
initiative
spread to
other cities
including
Cuahutemoc,
Guadalajara,
Mazatlan,
Matamoros,
Veracruz,
Saltillo,
and Xalapa,
through the
support of
Family
Planning
International
Assistance.
