The trend to be "Green" is moving advertisers away from the wasteful resources of paper and environmentally unfriendly ink. Also, magazines have an almost zero pass rate except in a waiting room. This is wasteful to the environment and the advertiser. A third of each weeks podcast down loads is from the achieves, this means podcasts are more permanent than magazine ads, or radio ads. This eco-friendly and more affordable marketing medium reach a larger world wide web audience.
Podcasts have matched TV & Magazines in production quality and topics. Podcasts allow viewers to download information on topics that interest them specifically, making the advertising even more directed. An example of how podcasting has changed, is iTunes has the world's first Luxury Channel for Podcasts. Lorre White, The Luxury Guru (just Google either her name or the phrase "The Luxury Guru" and you can see she already has a TV, Radio & magazine following) has 2 shows on the new podcast Luxury channel, "Luxury On A Budget" which is similar to what she does frequently on ABC for EyeWitness News & "Guru of Luxury" show which takes viewers jet shopping, to buy expensive watches, attend events, etc which she has done for Fox National, CNN Money, & Sirius radio. Podcasting for her is an "advancement in the media world for me" she says. "I do not see it as a lesser or inferior media form,...... it is the future."
As our home & work phones merge with our computers and soon or TV and as movie will be downloadable from iTunes the advertising of the future will be on this all in one information/entertainment center. Studies already show that people spend more time per day on their computers then watching TV. Magazines being such an enormous waste of natural resources and having a very minimal reach (low to no pass rate)are becoming an irresponsible media for advertisers. In this time of economic down turn, podcast is offering a more affordable and responsible customer reach then the more expensive and historic fading mediums of the past. Being "green" is just one more reason to reach to the future.
